Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
About the Book
Is this a non-fiction book or a novel?
A non-fiction book told like a story. All content is based on published specialist literature and conversations. The characters are fictional, so that the reader can follow the whole thing like a narrative.
Do I need prior knowledge?
No. The book starts from scratch — with a boy who has no answer to the question "What is that?"
What age group is it for?
From about fourteen. It manages without technical terms that aren't explained, and it doesn't sugarcoat anything.
I am not Yazidi. Will I understand it?
Yes. The book is written so that someone with no prior connection can follow along. Every term is explained the first time it appears, and there is a glossary in the back.
But it's told differently where we are.
Very likely. There are multiple answers to many questions among us, depending on the region and family. The book explicitly mentions this at every sensitive point. If you know of something differently, write to me — corrections will go into the next edition.
Are holy texts quoted?
No. Neither verbatim nor in spirit. Neither God nor Tawûsî Melek speak in direct discourse at any point in the book. That is a conscious decision, and it is justified in the book.
Does Şingal appear?
In one scene, as far as it belongs in a volume about faith. Volume 3 covers it in detail.
About the Purchase
In what format do I get the book?
As an EPUB file, around 1.5 MB.
How do I get the file?
Immediately after purchase via email. The download link comes in a separate message, directly after the order confirmation. It also appears on the confirmation page.
Can I read it on my phone?
Yes. On the iPhone, the file opens in Apple Books. On Android, you need a free app like ReadEra or Google Play Books. Tolino and Kobo read EPUB directly.
And on the Kindle?
The Kindle does not read EPUB without a detour. You can convert the file with the free program Calibre or send it to your device via "Send to Kindle".
How often can I download it?
Up to five times, and the link does not expire. If that is not enough because you have changed your device, write to me briefly — I will set up your access again.
Do I get a printed book?
Not at the moment. Only the digital edition is available.
The email didn't arrive.
Check your spam folder first. If it is not there either, there is usually a typo in the address. Write to me with your order number, and I will send the link again.
Can I give the book as a gift?
You can buy it for someone else and pass on the file — that's fine. What isn't allowed is public distribution, such as uploading it to groups or the web.
Does our association get a discount for multiple copies?
Write to me. For associations, youth groups, and schools, we will find a solution.
About the Series
When are volumes 2 and 3 coming out?
They are in progress. I will only announce a date when it is certain. Sign up for the mailing list, and you will be the first to know.
Do I have to read the volumes in order?
Yes, that is the intention. Volume 1 lays the foundations upon which the other two build.

Can you become a Yazidi?
There is no test, no confession, no course. There is also no exception for good people. Why this is so — and what it costs.

The same story is told in two religions. It has two endings. And on this one difference hangs almost everything that has happened to the Yazidis.
